Ten retired employees of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs have been honored for dedicated services to the Ministry and State. The ceremony was held in the conference room at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs, Friday, February 5, 2010.

Those honored include Messrs Abel Z. Massalee who served for 47 years, Browne Slewion for 28 years, Morris B. Gwehn for 28 years, Nyankoon Davies for 27 years, and Melville Harris, Jr for 25 years. Others are Ms. Betsy S.Pambu for 39 years, Benjamin B.W Jlah, Sr for 25 years and Francis J. Momolu for 23 years.  Among the honorees were two redundant employees: Andrew Page for 12 years and Layfette Harris for two years.

The speakers including Minister Amara Konneh, Deputy Ministers of Planning Dr. Marcus Dahn, Sebastian Muah and Dorbor Jallah praised the retirees for their sacrificial services to Liberia over the years they served. They assured the honorees that the Ministry of Planning doors will always be open.

“We will look for opportunity to always engage you when needed,” said Minister Konneh, who called on his staff to emulate the kind of dedication to national cause exemplified by the honorees, most especially Abel Massale, who served for 47 unbroken years.

The civil service agency was represented at the program by the deputy director general Othello Weh, who thanked the honorees for the altruistic services to their country. The honorees were presented Certificates of honor by the Ministry of Planning. A team from the Finance Ministry expedited the disbursement of retirees' pension benefits following the official program.

Speaking on behalf of the honorees, Abel Massalee thanked the Ministry of Planning for bestowing honors on them. He urged the Ministry leadership to employ the “best minds to do the work here at the ministry. I enjoyed my work throughout these years with commitment and energy as my guide. I want others to do the same to move our country forward.”
