In separate meetings with the United States Ambassador and the County Director of the United Nations Development Programs (UNDP) recently, Minister Konneh extolled the two individuals for their overwhelming supports to Liberia’s recovery process. He called for their continuous supports to ensure Liberia fully recovers.
The meetings were convened at the request of the Minister who paid courtesy calls on Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield and Mr. Dominic Sam, Country Director, UNDP to thank them for their partnership in the implementation of the Lift Liberia programs. Minister Konneh also used the meetings to brief Liberia’s development partners on key 2010 Work Plan priorities drawn from the ministry’s strategic Plan.
Among the key priority areas in the work plan as highlighted by Minister Konneh include his Ministry’s leadership in drafting the National Visioning plan for Liberia, the Growth corridors study which has been completed and a forum being planned to discuss links to economic growth agenda.
Minister Konneh was also particular about the UNMIL drawdown in which he said the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs has taken the lead in examining the issue and is learning from two contrasting situations, representing success and failure: Sierra Leone and East Timor, respectively; idea is to stimulate a GOL dialogue on Liberia’s own case of drawdown plans. Minister Konneh calls for a quick move by the Government of Liberia to take ownership in the event UNMIL drawdown becomes a reality.
Meanwhile Ambassador Greenfield and the UNDP Boss said they will continue partnership with the Government of Liberia in meeting the goals of the Lift Liberia programs.
